Frequently asked questions

Everything about Mendeleev 7.0: what it is, how you work with it and why it is fast and secure.

About Mendeleev

What is Mendeleev?

Mendeleev is the CMS from Webatvantage. Clients use it to manage the texts, photos, news, forms and newsletters of their website themselves. Version 7.0 has been rewritten from scratch: simpler for the client, faster and more secure online.

Who is Mendeleev for?

For organisations that want to keep their website up to date themselves without technical knowledge: clubs, SMEs, non-profits and service providers. If you can type a text and choose a photo, you can work with Mendeleev.

What does it include?
  • Building pages with widgets
  • News with approval
  • Forms with requests and emails
  • Newsletters with subscribers
  • Statistics from Google Analytics
  • Translation with a single button
  • A media library
  • Users with roles
Why the name Mendeleev?

After Dmitri Mendeleev, who brought order to the elements with the periodic table. Mendeleev does the same for a website: every section has a fixed place and works in the same way.

Working with the CMS

How do I edit a text?

Open the page under Pages, click on the widget and edit the text. Click Save and then Publish. A few seconds later it is online.

Can a contributor write without being allowed to change everything?

Yes. There are four roles: Developer, Administrator, Editor and Contributor. A Contributor writes news and submits it, an Editor proofreads it and puts it online. Those who are allowed to do less also see less, which keeps the CMS simple.

How does translation work?

Under Multilingual, you can see per language what still needs to be translated. The Translate all button does it automatically. If you wish, you can then read through what has just been translated and adjust it.

Can I send a newsletter from the CMS?

Yes. You build the newsletter with widgets, just like a page, preview it on computer and mobile, send a test email to yourself and send it to the lists you choose. Afterwards you can see who opened it and who clicked. Subscribers sign up via the site and confirm by email.

What if I make a mistake?

Mendeleev makes a backup with every change. Under Backups, you can restore a previous version with one click.

Technology and security

Why is a site built with Mendeleev so fast?

When you publish, Mendeleev creates plain HTML pages. A visitor immediately gets a ready-made page, with no waiting time. Photos are automatically converted to WebP in the right sizes.

How secure is it?

Visitors get ready-made pages. What is fixed lives in the code. What is dynamic, such as enquiries and sign-ups, is kept safely behind the scenes. The CMS itself has two-step verification, a limit on login attempts and a log of who did what.

Where is the data stored?

On the site's own server, outside the public folder. Keys for external services are never stored in the code or in the backups.

Is custom work possible?

Yes. The core stays the same for every site, and custom work goes into its own module that neatly attaches to the core. That way every client gets the core updates without their custom work breaking.

Approach and cost

How does a new site start?

We create a new site with the starter, put the client's design into the templates and fill in the initial content. The client receives an invitation by email and chooses their own password.

What does Mendeleev cost?

That depends on the design, the modules and the custom work. Get in touch and we will put together a tailored proposal.

How does a site get new versions?

We apply an update to the core on the site with a single command. New features are added automatically, including for existing clients.

Website laten maken
